The Last Child by John Hart

Thirteen-year-old Johnny Herriman's life has changed drastically from the year before. His twin sister Alyssa disappeared and he seems to be the only one still looking for her, other than Detective Clyde Hunt. His father left the family and his mother is often drunk or on drugs and has taken up with an abusive man.
I was drawn into the story right away and wanted to know what happened to Johnny. I thought it was well-written as well but this a very dark, disturbing novel. Any time a child is kidnapped is disturbing but what happens to Johnny and his mother is very dark.
The language is profane and there is quite a bit of violence which makes this book rated R.
