Addie Downs lived a lonely life. Her parents had died, her brother had been in a car accident that left him brain-damaged, her best friend turned on her in high school, she worked painting pictures for a greeting card company and could go weeks without leaving her home. She manages to finally lose the weight but the negative experiences of high school, where she was teased for her weight and her efforts to help her friend, still keep her feeling shy and awkward. Online dating hasn't helped her much. One night, her friend Val shows up at her door, panicked and bloody. Addie is hesitant but lets her in. It turns out that Val, in an effort at revenge while at a high school reunion, has done something stupid and is afraid of being caught by police. Addie helps her friend once again although it goes against her better judgment.
I think the basic premise of the book was interesting but it didn't live up to its potential. Also, there were lots of f-words and sexual references in this book and I can't recommend it as worthwhile reading.
