I usually enjoy Dean Koontz' books but I have to say that this left me feeling very let down by it's disjointed story line. It started well with a couple of interesting people, a veterinarian who is damaged by her past, and a man who for some reason decided to live an almost hermit-like existence a few years ago. Add in a very deranged man with a sense of purpose in his actions and some odd behavior by various animals, the story seemed to be building towards something really interesting but it fell very short of that. Other characters and story lines were introduced but the book never came to a satisfying conclusion. There were many many questions left unanswered and some of the story lines didn't seem to have anything to do with the others.
The language was fairly clean. The only thing I found objectionable was the violence committed, or thought about, by the deranged man. Rated PG-16 for the violence.
